Grow your own: Training your future skilled woodworkers

December 10, 2020 @ 2:00 pm - 2:45 pm

Learn how to set up a Department of Labor-registered woodworking apprenticeship program in your shop Learn about the new U.S. Department of Labor’s registered Woodworking Manufacturing Specialist program in this 45-minute presentation. The program is the brainchild of Kelly Victor-Burke, majority owner of Burke Architectural Millwork of Livonia, Mich. She drafted the initial framework to address the employment gap in the wood products industry through cross-training and upskilling new and existing employees in a combination of CAD, mechatronics, wood processing, coatings, estimating and project management. Panelists will discuss the scope of the program and how to get started with a Department of Labor-approved Woodworking Manufacturing Specialist program in your area.

Panelists include: Kelly Victor-Burke, majority owner, CEO, Burke Architectural Millwork; Mark Smith, educator at the secondary and post-secondary level; and Janene Kelley Erne, Regional Apprenticeship Administrator at the Workforce Intelligence Network (WIN).
