FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

MONROE, Mich. – Dean R. Wilson, president of the American Welding Society, an organization with nearly 70,000 members worldwide, will speak at Monroe County Community College on September 10.

The presentation, which is sponsored by the college’s Applied Science and Engineering Technology Division, will take place at 3 p.m. in the student concourse of the Career Technology Center.  It is free and open to the public.

Wilson – who will be joined by Don DeCorte, counselor for AWS and vice president of RoMan Manufacturing Inc., and Robert Wilcox, AWS District 11 director – will speak about continued credentialing of AWS programs and introduce a new program operating under AWS.

Following the presentation, the AWS contingent will tour MCCC’s new welding lab in the Career Technology Center, and be briefed on the many applied science and engineering technology programs housed in that facility, which opened in 2013.

AWS was founded in 1919 as a multifaceted, nonprofit organization with a mission to advance the science, technology and application of welding and allied joining and cutting processes worldwide, including brazing, soldering and thermal spraying.
