The pool of IT professionals in Southeast Michigan is smaller than employers would like it to be, so several metro Detroit companies are coming together for the new ExperienceIT job-training program, launching June 23.
ExperienceIT is a re-invention of the former IT in the D job-training program. During the eight-week training program, students will work alongside professionals from the IT divisions of Quicken Loans Inc., GalaxE.Solutions Inc., Marketing Associates LLC, Fathead LLC, Title Source Inc., DTE Energy Co. and Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan. The curriculum is designed by Grand Circus Detroit LLC, according to Ryan Hoyle, vice president of business development and global talent acquisition for GalaxE.Solutions.
ExperienceIT graduates are guaranteed jobs with one of the participating companies, all of which have job openings, Hoyle said. About 40 trainees have been selected to participate in the program. They applied online and were selected based on their existing skills and technical ability.
The program will offer technical training for software engineers and technical analysts, and skills training in areas such as business communication, interpersonal skills, interviewing and leadership. The program is free to participants; Hoyle estimated this type of training would cost between $5,000 and $10,000.
Hoyle said he believes this new concept will be a test: If it is successful, organizers will look for more companies and students, and expand the program to more skill sets, such as project management, quality assurance and business intelligence.
“I don’t know of another area where competition is collaborating to improve relations and to benefit a city,” Hoyle said. “We’re all invested in making this a global talent hub.”
ExperienceIT is organized by Workforce Intelligence Network, Tanner Friedman, Grand Circus and Detroit Employment Solutions Corp.
