National Apprenticeship Week (NAW) is a national celebration that offers leaders in business, labor, education and other critical partners a chance to demonstrate their support for apprenticeship.

National Apprenticeship Week (NAW), now in its fifth year, is a nationwide celebration that gives businesses, communities, and educators the opportunity to showcase their apprenticeship programs and apprentices while providing valuable information to career seekers. NAW 2019 will be held November 11-17, 2019.
Recognizing the workforce advancements that have followed the official designation of this time-tested model – while also giving supporters the opportunity to showcase their programs, facilities, and apprentices in our community – the Workforce Intelligence Network (WIN) and its partners, including community colleges, Michigan Works! agencies and workforce development organizations are looking forward to the celebration.
Currently, SEMCA Michigan Works! and WIN manages a $4 million American Apprenticeship Initiative (AAI) grant aimed to make apprenticeship work for companies and job-seekers by expanding regional apprenticeship through statewide innovation. In partnership with multiple community colleges and other community partners, MI Apprenticeship focuses on establishing apprenticeship programs responsive to the evolving technical needs in high-demand automotive and transportation sectors, along with non-traditional apprenticeship occupations like in healthcare and information technology.

Through national best practice tools and strategies including a Return on Investment (ROI) Calculator and Registered Apprenticeship Program in a Day (RAPiD) events has allowed the MI Apprenticeship including employer, college and workforce agency partners to achieve American Apprenticeship Initiative (AAI) grant outcomes one year early.
“The WIN Apprenticeship team thanks and recognizes the hard work of employer, college and workforce agency partners that achieved AAI outcomes one year early based on developing and implementing national best practice tools and strategies,” says WIN Executive Director Michele Economou Ureste. “Through the end of the AAI grant in 2020, the WIN team can assist employers with apprenticeship tracking, reporting and U.S. Department of Labor (DOL) compliance by serving as an Intermediary.”
Today, there is as great a need as ever for Department of Labor registered apprenticeships in virtually every industry sector. And, if they do not already exist, these apprenticeships are currently being developed – with over 1,000 already in play: training future chefs, carpenters, IT professionals, law enforcement personnel, dental assistants and more for rewarding careers. That is something to celebrate.
