On Wednesday, September 20, Opportunity Detroit Tech will hold a Tech Council meet up for the Detroit region, a networking and learning opportunity for IT employers to learn about how apprenticeship programs and initiatives can increase and diversify their talent pools. The event will take place at Automation Alley located at 2675 Bellingham Drive in Troy from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m., and is free and open to all employers seeking IT talent who would like to learn about how apprenticeship programs can improve talent attraction and retention.
Opportunity Detroit Tech (ODT) is a collaborative body that recognizes southeast Michigan and greater Detroit as a national leader in IT innovation, research and product development.
To help promote this vision and introduce local employers to the resources available for discovering talent, the event will feature a presentation and discussion by Jennifer Carlson, Executive Director of Apprenti, who will discuss the benefits of registered IT apprenticeship programs and how apprenticeship can help businesses bolster their ranks with diverse, well-trained, and experience talent.
The event will also feature Liz Rivard, Program Manager with Industry 4.0 Partnerships and Talent, about how Automation Alley can assist companies in creating new or expanding existing registered apprenticeship programs by leveraging grant funds to help offset the costs of hiring apprentices.
The Workforce Intelligence Network for Southeast Michigan (WIN), which convenes and facilitates the activities of ODT, will also be showcasing a new, interactive apprenticeship return on investment (ROI) model. WIN’s Director of Data Analytics, Alex Rosaen, will be in attendance to present this web-based tool that lays out the costs and benefits over time to employers when they participate in apprenticeship programs, including cumulative ROI that an apprentice will provide to the employer over the length of his or her education, as well as the break-even point in that process.
