In today’s highly technical, ever-evolving economy, a business’s success comes down to two things: technology and skilled workers capable of using it. That is why on August 16-17, Rockwell Automation (Rockwell) will be hosting Rockwell Automation on the Move at the Suburban Collection Showplace in Novi. Open to anyone interested in learning more about automation, manufacturing, IT, engineering, and other technical professions, the event will highlight smart, safe and sustainable solutions to turn current marketplace challenges into economic advantages. Such strategies include plant-wide optimization, increased machine builder performance, sustainable production strategies, and future workforce development.
Rockwell has long understood most businesses in Michigan are facing a talent pipeline “perfect storm.” As current workers age and near retirement, there are few—if any—young job seekers with the skills and knowledge needed to replace them.
To discuss the current state of the labor market, and how businesses can address the perfect workforce storm, the Workforce Intelligence Network (WIN) will be hosting a session at 9:30 AM during both days of the event. The session hosted by WIN will include data-driven analysis of southeast Michigan’s labor market, opportunities to connect with business peers through groups such as the Michigan Academy for Green Mobility Alliance (MAGMA) and Opportunity Detroit Tech, which are WIN-led efforts, as well as details on ways to connect the workforce of tomorrow through MI Bright Future.

While most of the event is tailored for educational, workforce development, and industry professionals, there will be an opportunity for young jobseekers under the age of 18 to learn more about careers in manufacturing and automation. On August 17, there will be a student workshop beginning at 9:30 AM that will highlight career opportunities at Rockwell and the manufacturing industry as a whole. The workshop will include lunch and a chance to tour the event floor from 12:30-1:30 PM.
