Southfield-based Specs Howard School of Media Arts will offer $125,000 in scholarships to employees of Michigan businesses seeking training in technology-driven courses.
This is the second year the school will offer scholarships, after it awarded $250,000 as part of its first Michigan Business Scholarship program that began in May, said Lisa Zahodne, Specs Howard president.
“The scholarship program was very successful last year, but we wanted to go a little lower this time around, since it’s within a year of when we launched the first one,” she said. This year’s program will begin April 1.
Specs Howard began the business scholarship program to help companies train their employees to be more competitive in the digital world, said Zahodne.
Specs Howard offers year-long courses in graphic design, digital media arts and broadcast media arts, both in person and online.
The $5,000 scholarships cover about a third of the approximately $15,600 course fee and are available to any worker employed by a Michigan business, Zahodne said.
